Roy who is a qualified Commercial Skipper was asked to drive a 1970’s 17 foot Fletcher GTO powerboat while dressed in full 1970’s gear, which included a beige roll neck pullover, wig and Nick Cotton’s leather jacket from East Enders (it had his name in the label!)

The filming was carried out on a lake in Reading/Basingstoke just off the M4 motorway and was used in the sketch called ‘The Interceptors’ and was about the three presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May creating an opening scene and credits of a typical 1970’s police drama.

Roy’s job was to take an old style walkie talkie to the boat, go out into the lake and wait for that magic word ‘action’!

“Once the word was shouted across the airwaves, I opened the throttle and raced along the lake on a prearranged heading at a calculated speed to be just in front of James May in his Jenson Interceptor, at this point, James got out his remote control and pressed a big red button.  Which then cuts to a model of me in a model boat which was then blown up!” enthused Roy, “the boat was smaller than I usually drive but it was fantastic fun and a great day out from the norm”.

“ And to really round it off, I was given preferential tickets for the studio filming of Series 18, Episode 4 – all of a sudden I became very popular in my local!!”

The Repair Care System specialises in solutions for the maintenance and conservation of wood decay or damage through the use of the Repair Care Resin System and or the piecing in of the new timber with the resin.

Repair Care has been preserving and protecting external joinery for over 20 years. The system has proved perfectly acceptable for use on Period and Listed properties including some of those owned and maintained by the National Trust and English Heritage.
